Advanced Classes for Experienced Citizen Foresters
Lead Citizen Forester training for Community Tree Planting (CTP) Program – Workshop
Casey Trees works with community groups to plan tree planting events. Interested groups submit an application for our CTP program if they want to plant trees in their neighborhoods. We provide technical support to approved projects and match trained Citizen Foresters to help them organize their planting event. Lead Citizen Foresters are the heart of the CTP program. They extend our technical support by serving as facilitators and co-leaders to each project. They also serve as consultants to the project team to help them decide the type of trees to plant, when and where to plant, and how to coordinate the planting day.
To become a Lead Citizen Forester, interested Citizen Foresters must complete the CTP Training Module, which reviews how to work with community groups, planning steps for a successful tree-planting event, and background tools and materials that help you serve as a resource to the project team. Prerequisite training includes completion of Planting Trees, and the Trees in the City. Service hours for this module qualify for the Trees in the City or Planting Trees.
Tree Walk
Walk with Casey Trees staff and members of our field crew as we identify and discuss trees in their natural settings.
Pruning Workshop
This 4-hour winter workshop is open only to Citizen Foresters who have completed the Planting and Care of trees training module. Participants learn basic tree pruning techniques for hand tools only in a short didactic classroom session. This session is immediately followed by a field practice session guided by the class instructor. Class size is limited to insure one-on-one instruction.
