Citizen Forester Call to Action
Help keep the District's newly planted trees alive!
Casey Trees is partnering with the Urban Forestry Administration to water newly planted street trees with “Ooze Tubes.” Interested Citizen Foresters will serve as “Captains” who will identify residents in their neighborhoods to adopt a tree(s), provide them with an Ooze Tube, and teach them how to use it. From June – October, trees need 20 – 25 gallons of water each week, and Ooze Tubes allow this water to penetrate the soil and reach the roots.
To get started, follow these simple steps!
Step 1: Click: http://citizenatlas.dc.gov/atlasapps/reporthometab.aspx to determine your neighborhood Single Member District (SMD).
Step 2: Click: http://www.dcgreenmap.org/wateryourtree/WaterIndex.html to find out how many trees are located in your SMD.

The ooze tube demo and distribution will be at 11:30 am. To be a captain you do not need to attend the entire planting just the watering campaign instructions at 11:30 am.

A RICH, GREEN LEGACY
The
District of Columbia has had a long and rich relationship with its
trees. The 1791 L’Enfant Plan specified grand tree-lined avenues.
In the 1870’s the planting of 60,000 street trees was an integral
part of a massive public works program that, within 20 years, earned
the District an international reputation as the “City of Trees.”
One
hundred years later the trees of Washington were suffering and concerned
citizens began to take action to regreen the city and in 2001, Casey
Trees was established.
