Wheeler Terrace
Wheeler Terrace is a 113-unit, 3.2-acre garden apartment community in southeast DC, fronting Oxon Run Park. The Community Preservation and Development Corporation (CPDC) is rehabilitating the buildings and redeveloping the site. It will be the first affordable housing development in Washington, DC to meet both the “Green Communities” standards established by Enterprise Community Partners and achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. For two summers, Wheeler Terrace was the subject of the design project for Casey Trees’ Summer Crew program. The curriculum of site analysis and planting plan design culminated in student presentations to CPDC and the site’s architect, Wiencek + Associates. Casey Trees will work with CPDC to finalize the tree plan and implement it through our Community Tree Planting program, once construction on the site is complete. We are also committed to educating the property managers and residents on the benefits of trees and proper tree care. |
