Green Issue Briefs
The tremendous public and private investment in Washington, DC’s buildings and infrastructure offers a real opportunity to create a world-class sustainable city. In recent years the concept of “green” development, linked primarily to building materials and energy efficiency, has gained significant momentum. Yet, the greenest aspects of our urban environment – trees, vegetation and natural areas – are often overlooked. Presented here are nine issue briefs that focus on incorporating these green assets to serve vital functions as the District of Columbia grows and redevelops. From the overarching vision of a green capital city, to neighborhood-scale plans, to the design of individual sites, these briefs examine the building blocks for a greener, healthier and more livable urban environment. |
