Community Tree Inventory Program
Thank you for your interest in DC’s trees and their care and protection. We welcome your participation in an inventory of trees in your area. The application at the bottom of the page covers the basic procedures for conducting the inventory, including the roles and responsibilities of your organization and Casey Trees.
In recent years, we have worked with residents in Georgetown, Dupont Circle, Foggy Bottom. In the spring of 2009, we completed work with both the Crestwood neighborhood and McLean Gardens. The goals for each of these projects will vary, based on the needs of each neighborhood. Casey Trees staff will work with your team to set up similar goals before we begin.

To properly restore, enhance, and protect our city's tree canopy, we must have detailed information about each tree. In 2002, hundreds of citizens participated in an unprecedented survey of the city’s street trees. Using hand-held computers and a state-of-the-art mapping system, volunteers walked 955 miles of city streets to document the condition and location of 106,000 trees and 25,000 potentially plantable spaces.
