Volunteer Opportunities

Casey Trees offers volunteer opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill levels.  Everyone can pitch in to help restore the tree canopy in our Nation's capital. Whether you participate in an inventory, lend your digging skills at a Community Tree Planting, or give us your time at a tree care event, you can make an enormous contribution towards making the District a more green and livable City.

Interested individuals and groups can volunteer their time and services with Casey Trees through five avenues - Citizen Forester, Tree Planting, Tree Inventory, Tree Care, and Organizational.   Volunteer once or often - you decide. Check back in early spring 2010 for our upcoming volunteer opportunities.

If you would like to schedule a volunteer event for your group or have any questions regarding an already schedule event, please contact Carol Herwig, Volunteer Coordinator, at cherwig@caseytrees.org or 202-349-1907.

Please note that all participants must turn in a signed Volunteer Waiver Form before being allowed to volunteer at a Casey Trees event.  Children under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Forms for volunteers under 18 years of age must be signed by their legal guardian.

CITIZEN FORESTER

Citizen Foresters (CF) are individuals interested in an expanded volunteer role with Casey Trees.  Citizen Foresters learn how to identify tree species, teach new volunteers how to properly plant and care for trees, and promote urban forestry awareness and education throughout the District.  Learn more.

TREE INVENTORY

Before Casey Trees plants any trees we determine where they are needed and what condition existing trees are in.  Inventory teams count, measure, identify and determine health of trees throughout the District.

TREE CARE

Newly planted trees need to be cared for especially in the hot summer months. Tree Care teams water, weed, and mulch young trees throughout the City.
