Washington D.C. is much more than monuments, museums and federal buildings. There are more than 130 distinct neighborhoods in the District, each with their own personality and culture shaped by historical events, former and current residents, businesses and their built and natural environment including their trees.

The D.C. area boasts more than 300 species of native and exotic trees. Some are well-known, others are not as familiar. Each month, Casey Trees hosts one or more tree walks to introduce residents and visitors to the District's diverse urban forest, teach tree identification and share how trees define and make life better in communities.

While participating in a docent-led tree walk is the ideal way to explore new neighborhoods and sites, have your tree questions answered and meet new people, your schedule may not allow you to join each tree walk we offer. Remember, trees and their surroundings change with the seasons. Repeating a tree walk at different times of the year will provide you an opportunity to observe previously unseen characteristics such as blossoms and fruit and even the structure of the tree.
