It's a question we get asked a lot: What does Casey Trees do? Well, we do lots of things. We plant trees, train people to become Citizen Foresters, engage thousands of volunteers in tree planting and care, teach school kids about trees, monitor the District's tree canopy, design better planting spaces so trees can thrive in the city — the list goes on. But, as powerful as all of these activities are, none of them describes the core of the organization — you.
That's right — Casey Trees is about you, your neighborhood and your community. Your hands plant the trees that will be enjoyed by generations, you take what you've learned about the importance of trees and pass that on to family and friends, you speak out at community forums so developers build homes and renovate streets so your neighborhoods are more livable and green and you're the one who tells others to take care of trees so they can take care of all Washingtonians. Casey Trees might provide some resources but you provide the energy, the drive and the will to make the District a better place to live — tree by tree, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood.
A friend of mine once said never underestimate the ability that someone with a shovel and seedling has to change the world. At Casey Trees we will never forget that, and we will never underestimate the power you have to make Washington, D.C. the greenest city in the nation.
Thank you for your energy, your work and your support.
Sincerely,
Mark Buscaino
